Trick or Treat

Page history last edited by Beardicus 7 years, 4 months ago

“Hurry up dear, we’re waiting on you!” I call out to my wife Bess as I make a final adjustment to my daughter’s princess costume. “There you go sweetheart, all fixed.” I say, rustling my daughter’s hair in between the small nubs of her bovine horns.

She huffs slightly, her lips pursed slightly as she looks at me with a pouty expression. “They were fine before daddy, and now you ruined my hair!” Crossing her arms, she looks away with an indignant frown for a few moments before she’s unable to hold up the charade any longer, and she starts giggling before jumping forward to give me a hug. “I love you daddy.” my daughter says into my jacket.

I pull my daughter away for a moment, looking into her deep brown eyes before smiling and giving her a kiss on the forehead. “I love you too sweetie.”

“And so do I Hannah, so do I.” Bess announces, walking over and joining in with a hug of her own. As we separate, my wife reaches over, pulling me back into a hug and giving me a quick kiss. “I love you too honey.” she smiles after breaking the embrace.

“Still need help with your costume?” I chuckle, and a slight blush creeps up Bess’ cheeks as she looks away in shame.

“Maybe...”

I sigh before grabbing my wife’s hand and leading her back to our bedroom. “Come on dear, let’s go.”

-----

A few hours later I stumble back through the front door of the house, Bess and Hannah following me shortly after with a few dead leaves still stuck to their hooves, my wife shivering slightly from the cold. “I told you before Bess, you should have picked something other than that for a costume.” I say, throwing my jacket over my wife’s trembling shoulders.

“I-i-it’s n-not my fault I-I'm a h-h-holstaur!” she responds, her teeth chattering. “Y-you try f-f-f-inding a c-cute renaissance outfit that f-fits your ch-chest!”

“I thought you said that did fit you.” I sigh, putting my face into my hand and shaking my head back and forth.

“Well I thought it did! How was I supposed to know that the corset would push my chest up like that and make the shirt too small, leaving almost all of my chest exposed?” Bess huffs angrily.

“What are you talking about mommy?” Hannah asks, an innocent but quizzical look on her face.

“Nothing sweetie,” I say, giving her a pat on the head, “now go and change into your pajamas and pick out a movie to watch while I help your mother, okay?”

“Yes daddy!” Hannah says, scampering off to her room as best she can under the weight of the pillowcase full of candy dragging on the floor behind her.

Bess and I chuckle slightly as we watch our daughter dash off to the other side of the house, smiling at each other before we lock lips. “Come on, let’s get you into something a little less provocative and a little warmer.”

Bess groans, rolling her eyes dramatically before giggling softly, giving me a tight hug before pulling away again. “Yes dear.”

-----

With a heavy sigh, I fall into the couch next to my wife and hand her a large mug of hot cider as Hannah starts digging in to her sugary horde on the floor in front of us. As I drape my arm over her shoulders, Bess leans into me, snuggling slightly closer as Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride starts up on the television. About halfway through the movie, Hannah crawls up into my lap to cuddle with the two of us, and by the end of the movie she’s fallen asleep, snoozing lightly in my lap. Bess’ eyes sparkle when she notices me tucking a lock of our daughter’s hair behind her ear.

“She’s so beautiful like that.” my wife whispers as I adjust myself before picking Hannah up in my arms. “We made a wonderful daughter, haven’t we?”

“Yeah. We have.” I respond, leaning over to give Bess a loving kiss. “Come on, let me tuck little miss tired her, and then we can cuddle some more.”

“Alright dear. I love you.” Bess says, giving me a quick peck on the lips.

“Love you too.” I respond as I carry Hannah to her room.

-----

“That was real fun daddy.” Hannah softly says as I help her under the covers.

“Glad you had fun sweetie.” I respond, ruffling my daughter’s hair again.

Hannah looks up at me with a tired smile, her tired green eyes reflecting the decorative lights outside her window. “Can I have a bedtime story?”

“It’s kind of late sweetie, how about tomorrow?” I say.

“Aww, but I like stories.”

“I know you do Hannah.” I say, leaning down to kiss her on the forehead. “Goodnight sweetie.”

“Goodnight daddy.” she responds, reaching up to give me a hug.

Just as I’m about to close the door after getting up off her bed, Hannah speaks up again. “Hey daddy?”

“Yes sweetie?” I ask, turning around and looking at her from the doorway.

“Will I ever have a little sister?”

I chuckle softly, and exhale through my nose a bit before responding. “I don’t know Hannah, I’ll have to talk with your mother about that.”

“Okay...” Hannah mumbles. “If I do, can she be called Sam?”

“We’ll see.”

-----

After tucking my daughter in, I walk back to my bedroom and change into my pajamas before joining my wife under the covers. Bess smiles softly as I wrap my arms around her waist, and she grabs the back of my head and kisses me hard, holding me against her for several seconds before letting go. As our legs intertwine, I peer into her shimmering blue eyes before I kiss her again, embracing her curvaceous body.

“I love you Bess.” I whisper, giving my wife another quick smooch.

“I love you too sweetie.” Bess responds, kissing me again before resting her head on my shoulder and snuggling up against me.

“So Hannah asked about having a little sister.” I say after a few minutes, breaking the silence between my wife and I.

Bess looks up at me, and I can almost not see the slight blush on her face. “A sister, huh?”

“Yeah, and she wants her sister’s name to be Sam.”

“Well, as much as I’d want to make another daughter with you, I’m a little tired right now honey.” Bess responds, reaching up and giving me a quick peck on the cheek.

“What about as a Christmas present for all of us then? Go out and ‘get’ the gift closer to then?”

“Not even Thanksgiving and you’re already talking about Christmas presents? God, you’re as bad as some of the stores at the mall.” my wife groans.

“Well excuse me for deciding to marry you when you seem to love me in that kind of way.” I respond, flicking her on the nose.

“Pervert...” Bess mumbles, chuckling slightly before reaching up and giving me another kiss. “Good night honey.”

“Goodnight Bess.” I whisper, stroking her silky hair as sleep overtakes me.
